For peak season (July-August, Christmas/New Year, Golden Week in Japan): 4-6 months for flights, 2-4 months for popular hotels. For off-peak: 4-8 weeks for flights is typically enough. Book flights first (they usually lock in your dates), then accommodations, then tours and activities.

Is travel insurance worth buying?

Yes, especially for international trips beyond domestic medical coverage. Look for policies covering: medical emergencies ($100,000+), trip cancellation, baggage loss, and “cancel for any reason” (CFAR) upgrades. Credit card travel insurance covers some of this if you booked with the card. Typical standalone policy: $30-80 per person per week.

What should I pack for a multi-destination European trip?

One piece of carry-on luggage forces discipline. Essentials: passport + copy, phone + universal adapter (Type C for most of Europe, G for UK), 5-6 days of clothes in layers, one comfortable walking shoes, one “nice dinner” outfit, medications, travel insurance docs, a small first-aid kit.

Do I need to bring a credit card, debit card, or cash?

All three, ideally. Bring a no-foreign-fee credit card (Chase Sapphire, Capital One, Wise) for most purchases, a debit card for ATM cash withdrawals, and €100-200 in local currency on arrival. Avoid airport exchange booths — rates are 5-10% worse than bank ATMs.

What travel apps should I have?

Must-have: Google Maps (download offline maps), Google Translate (download languages), Booking.com or Airbnb, your airline app, WhatsApp/Telegram. Very useful: XE Currency, Flighty (flight tracker), TripIt (itinerary consolidator), local ride apps (Bolt in Europe, DiDi in Asia).
