Che Guevara’s Childhood Home
If you want to fully appreciate Che and his revolutionary ideals, visiting his childhood home is key. On this 4-hour tour from Cordoba, explore Argentina’s countryside while also learning more about Alta Gracia where Che was born and raised – visiting both his former residence (which the government bought and turned into a museum), as well as landmarks like Virgen de Lourdes Grotto and Nuestra Senora de la Merced Church.
The museum provides a window into the life of a rebellious young medical student. You can view his favorite books – such as Don Quixote; his bombilla (a bulb-shaped pot from which he drank Argentine tea called Mate), his asthma inhaler, boots and pistol used during guerilla warfighting operations and more!
As part of your visit, you’ll also get to view Che’s post-capture room and gain an appreciation for his legacy and impact. Guides lead tours through key locations associated with Che’s final days while sharing anecdotes about him as well as providing valuable insights into his ideology.
As part of the tour, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Che Guevara and his influence on movements for social justice around the globe. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate for weather as well as bringing along water to stay hydrated. It is wise to familiarize yourself with the museum’s photography policy in advance so you can plan accordingly.
Virgen de Lourdes Grotto
Lourdes, situated in the Pyrenees Mountains, is one of the world’s most revered sacred sites. Here the Virgin Mary appeared 18 times to Bernadette Soubirous and it is said that one spring from its Grotto has miraculous healing powers. Millions of pilgrims visit every year seeking peace and miracles in an atmosphere of compassion and hope.
At first, The Virgin Mary’s appearances at the Grotto were met with great skepticism; however, once she instructed Bernadette to drink and bathe in its waters, reports of healings began emerging – confirmed later by church’s Medical Bureau – which became part of an unprecedented collaboration between faith and science. From there on out, Church began expanding, building magnificent basilicas as well as organizing pilgrimage tours that ultimately set new standards in travel–influencing sacred destinations globally.
Today, the Grotto remains at the center of Lourdes Sanctuary. Many pilgrims come here in search of miracles or peace and renewal; others just seek peace and renewal. Bernadette unearthed a spring within its confines that has since flowed freely within it allowing visitors to bathe there in what are known as piscines (french for bath). These baths allow a deeper spiritual cleansing than can otherwise occur with water baptism alone.
Start your day right with morning Mass at the Basilica, surrounded by fellow pilgrims praying. This ritual sets an auspicious beginning for your pilgrimage and helps center yourself before visiting the Grotto. After Mass, take a guided tour through its grounds to learn more about what happened here – also take note of lifelike wax figures in its museum that can help tell its tale!
Nuestra Senora de la Merced Church
The Nuestra Senora de la Merced Church stands as an architectural gem and an essential piece of Jaen’s rich cultural history. Its intricate details showcase Spanish colonial art while its serene ambience invites visitors to reflect upon spiritual matters. Situated at the center of Jaen, this Church is an important pilgrimage site that captures Catholicism’s deep roots within Jaen culture.
WMF has been involved with this church since 2006, helping develop both a master plan and conservation strategy for its entire complex. Furthermore, we funded restoration of its French stained glass windows depicting figures like Angel de la Guarda, Corazon de Jesus and San Antonio; their preservation serves as a testament to their history while protecting cultural heritage.
Visitors to this church can explore its interior, decorated with religious artwork and statues, to experience its spiritual essence. Additionally, its grotto is home to an important image of Mary referred to as La Virgen de la Merced (Our Lady of Mercy). Not only Catholicism venerates this image of Our Lady but Santeria practitioners also venerate her greatly.
Ronda Church stands out as an eye-catching site to explore during any cultural heritage tour of Ronda. Built in the 18th century and serving as convent to nuns and priests of Discalced Carmelites who are famous for leading reform movements under Saint Teresa of Avila and Saint John of the Cross in 16th century, its name reflecting their renunciation of worldly goods in favor of prayerful life and community involvement.
Tower of London
William the Conqueror constructed the Tower of London as part of his conquest of England in 1066 and since then it has played many roles–ranging from palace to prison and execution chamber (where three of Henry VIII’s wives, including Anne Boleyn, were executed). Additionally, its world-famous collection of crown jewels such as Imperial State Crown and Koh-i-Noor diamond are displayed here.
To gain the full picture of London’s Tower of London and its rich history, many travelers highly recommend taking a tour with an expert guide. Travelers rave about this unforgettable option which provides deep insights into its various forms, stories of betrayal and death as well as fast-track entry and exclusive access to its Jewel House where visitors can admire its Crown Jewels without as many other visitors around.
After taking a quick Thames cruise, you will be welcomed into the Towers by an experienced Beefeater (ceremonial guard of the Tower of London). Your guide will lead you away from the crowds by passing Bloody Tower and its darkened dungeons where prisoners like Lady Jane Grey and Anne Boleyn were kept prior to their grisly executions in nearby courtyard. Furthermore, visit Medieval Palace- a luxurious series of domestic apartments commissioned by two kings during their respective reigns that houses original objects as well as reproductions such as Henry’s gilded throne and Edward’s four poster bed!
The Tower of London is famous for its intricate layout and maze-like structure, easily disorienting first-time visitors. To maximize your visit here, travelers recommend hiring a Blue Badge Guide–Britain’s highest level of professional tourist guiding qualification–to explore all its highlights, from grim towers to Crown Jewels, in an engaging, entertaining, and educational experience.
